Stan and I became good friends during high school. After graduation our friendship continued. Stan enlisted in the Army Reserves and I enrolled at Hutch Juco. Stan returned from active duty to enroll at Hutch Juco the beginning of my sophomore year.
We spent a lot of time together, going to ball games, rodeos, and just dragging Main. I remember once Stan showed up where I worked just to ask if I wanted to go somewhere that evening.
One night when we were dragging Main, I introduced him to this girl that I knew, and it was love at first sight. Stan asked me to be a part of their wedding, but I had enlisted in the National Guard and had received orders from the Army to report to active duty before their wedding date.. We kept in touch but he enjoyed his family so I didn't see him very often.
Stan enjoyed racing cars with his boys and he was at the race track the day a massive heart attack ended his life.
Stan valued friendship more than any bank account, and I will always remember him as a true friend.

According to his obituary in the Wichita Eagle, Stan died on July 1, 2001 with the funeral on Thursday of that week in Wellington.
